Sergey Akhunov was born in Kiev in 1967.
A graduate of the Kiev State Conservatory, Sergey started as an oboe player before moving on to other genres, including electronic music and Rock 'n roll. He made a decisive break from this style of music in 2005 to exclusively concentrate on orchestral and chamber music. "It has taken me almost 40 years to understand what kind of music I really want to write," Sergei says.

Sergey Akhunov "jazz"
Review by Alain Steffen
The music is fantastic, compact, versatile, modern, full of emotions. Akhunov succeeds in reducing and compressing the music and its expressiveness to an essential, so that each note has an enormous importance and presence. The open-minded listener thus experiences 40 minutes of great music that catapults him into another world with each piece.

Sergey Akhunov "SONGS & POEMS"
Review by Michaela Schabel
'Songs & Poems' sounds gentle, suitable for the masses, without a precise assignment to a style and reveals fascinating worlds of sound
The courage to create something new, something that has never been on the music market before, finds a captivating sound on this CD, both instrumentally and vocally. Every instrument gets clear, often very extravagant sound lines in which it can unfold and the more often you hear "Songs & Poems", the more sound facets you discover. This is absolute feel-good music, always refined and completely unexpected with abysmal sound effects with goosebumps across the style epochs in symbiosis with Asian influences...

Sergey Akhunov "SONGS & POEMS"
Analyse: Jonas Zerweck
Very atmospheric music, without any overt intellectual demands, cleverly designed for singing voices. One of the strengths of the music is the space it gives the voices. They are allowed to spread out completely freely over the harmonic framework. The long, sustained tones give many opportunities to develop vocal colors. The music maintains this state of well-being throughout the entire cycle...
The organic breathing of this music, which creates a comfortable environment for the singing voices, is brought to life by Akhunov through movement. A constant swelling and subsiding, like a chest that rises and falls. And there is also polyphony in the string ensemble. Akhunov often composes very polyphonically, letting the voices run through each other...
This new album presents contemporary music that is worth a closer look: easily accessible, very atmospheric, at the same time it brings several opposites together in a subtle way.
